Night Sun

A full ensemble made for the Hand & Lock brief on modern mystic arts and the power of colour, drawing on the pagan Slavic cult of the sun. A chiffon maxi dress carries velvet applique and hand embroidery; over it sits an interpretation of the kokoshnik, the traditional Russian festive headpiece, its solar motifs enlarged until the pattern draws the structure rather than decorating it; with them a necklace of seventeen rows of semiprecious and glass beads. Ksenia designed, cut and embroidered all three.
