What is The Haud?

The Haud is a curated British marketplace for traditional and endangered handmade crafts. Every piece is genuinely handmade by a named maker in the UK, and product pages declare each craft's status against the Heritage Crafts Red List.

How is The Haud different from other marketplaces?

Every maker is reviewed and accepted individually. Applications come through /apply and we look at the work, the maker's story, and how the craft sits within British heritage. It is not self-serve. Imports, mass production, and reseller listings are not permitted.

What is The Haud's relationship to the Heritage Crafts Red List?

The Haud sells British heritage and traditional craft broadly: pottery, weaving, joinery, leatherwork, textiles, glass, ceramics, metalwork. Some of the crafts we carry are on the Heritage Crafts Red List of endangered crafts; many are not. The Red List is one of the values we curate against, not the catalogue. Where a piece is endangered, the product page says so.

Where are the products made?

Every product on The Haud is handmade in Britain by an accepted maker. No imports, no mass production, no resellers.

How do you choose the makers?

Makers apply through /apply and are reviewed individually. The work has to be genuinely handmade, rooted in British craft tradition, and good enough to earn its place.

Can I commission a custom piece?

Many of our makers accept commissions. Visit the maker's profile and use the contact link in their shop, or reach out to us at hello@thehaud.com and we will introduce you.

Where do you ship?

Standard delivery is free to mainland UK addresses (England, Scotland, and Wales) for most items. Some larger pieces have a flat shipping fee, shown clearly on the product page. We are not able to ship to Northern Ireland just yet, but do email hello@thehaud.com and we will see what we can arrange.

How long does delivery take?

Ready-to-ship pieces typically arrive within 3 to 5 working days. Made-to-order pieces ship within the lead time stated on each product page, anywhere from a few days to several weeks depending on the maker and the craft.

Do you ship internationally?

What is the returns policy?

You have 14 days from delivery to change your mind, on anything not made, personalised, or commissioned just for you. Handle the piece as you would in a shop; a deduction may apply for use beyond that. Anything faulty, damaged, or not as described is always covered, with return postage paid. Many makers offer a longer window, shown on the piece.

How do I start a return?

Contact the maker within 14 days of delivery; their details are in your order confirmation email. They will send you the return address. If anything is unresolved after 3 working days, email hello@thehaud.com and we will sort it.

What if my piece arrives damaged?

Accepted Answer

We are sorry. Photograph the damage and contact the maker within 30 days of delivery, with your order number. They will replace, repair, or refund, with return postage covered. If it is not sorted within 3 working days, email hello@thehaud.com and we will step in.

Which payment methods do you accept?

All major credit and debit cards via Stripe. Apple Pay and Google Pay at checkout where supported.

Are prices inclusive of VAT?

Yes. All prices shown include UK VAT where applicable. VAT registration details, when relevant to the maker, are listed on each maker profile.

Is my payment information secure?

Payments are processed by Stripe; The Haud never stores card details. The site uses HTTPS throughout.

How do I apply to sell on The Haud?

Visit /apply and tell us about your craft, your training, and your work. Applications are reviewed individually.

What does The Haud charge?

Accepted Answer

Commission only when a piece sells. No listing fee, no monthly charge, no pay-to-be-seen ads. We will talk through the specifics on the call before you are approved.

How are payouts handled?

Accepted Answer

Payouts go directly to your Stripe account, on Stripe's standard schedule. Each order settles cleanly to your shop's payout account; there is no manual claiming.
