Pearl Shoes

by Ksenia SemirovaPrice on application

Made for a Wizard of Oz exhibition at Queen Street Gallery, on the theme of home. Ksenia answered it with a pair of shoes worked in Russian pearl setting, the technique where beads are seated on cords that are stitched invisibly to the ground fabric. It is an ancient national technique, largely lost through the twentieth century, and reinterpreting it is the centre of her practice. The fairytale image of shoes that carry a girl home sits directly on top of a tradition she is bringing back.

Shell and glass pearls, cotton cords, leather · A wearable pair, made to size
