The Power of NO

by Ksenia SemirovaPrice on application

A corset built on the structure of seventeenth-century Dutch stays, garments designed to restrain. Ksenia moved the lacing to the front, which left the back free to speak: it carries the face of Medusa, her rope-like hair twisting into a single word. She read Medusa not as a monster but as a woman whose voice was taken from her, and the piece asks what happens when a refusal is finally made. Three to four weeks of tambour and padded handwork, in cotton, metallic and synthetic threads. It has been exhibited widely and no replica will be made.

Black taffeta, silver metallic taffeta lining, cotton, metallic and synthetic threads, plastic boning · Two pieces, corset body and detachable front panel; made to measure
