A square wall hanging at 80 by 80 cm, the medium piece in Elyn's quilted wall-hanging series. The square format reads more like a framed work than a banner, which makes it useful where a print might otherwise live: above a sofa, opposite a bed, at the head of a stairwell.
The blocks are machine-pieced in certified European linen, layered with cotton batting and hand-quilted through. The binding is finished by hand. A sleeve has been stitched along the back so a length of wooden dowel can be slid through and the hanging can sit flat against the wall.
The dowel itself is not included. Most hardware shops will cut one to the right length.

Elyn Middleton works from her living room in Sheffield, sewing patchwork quilts and wall hangings out of fine linen. The drawings on her sketchbook come from post-war architecture; the names she keeps coming back to are Anni Albers and Sophie Taeuber-Arp.
