Merched y Mabinogi

Five wall pieces in porcelain and red Welsh wool, made for Galeri Caernarfon in early 2026. Each stands for one of the women of the Mabinogi: Blodeuwedd, Branwen, Rhiannon, Enid and Luned. Bethan read them as strong characters that the medieval written versions never let be independent, and gave them that back. A Celtic knot runs through all five, taken from the decoration on an Early Medieval bronze altar found at Din Lligwy on Ynys Mon. She modelled the work first in terracotta under white slip, then made the final pieces in porcelain, and swapped the waxed hemp she had planned for red Welsh wool to hang them, because the Mabinogi came down through Wales by being told rather than written.
