Looksmaxxing, Turned Beech Amphora

A two-handled beech amphora that has taken a chisel in one of its own hands and is carving a six-pack into its own belly. The abdominal muscles are half finished. The handle holding the chisel is turned from the same log as the rest of it. Greg calls it his favourite piece so far. It is turned green from salvaged beech and left pale, with the dark knots and the grain running straight through the carved muscle, so the anatomy never quite stops being a piece of wood. The classical form is the point of the joke: this is the shape a vase has had for three thousand years, and it has decided that is not enough. The subject is what men are told to aspire to, what that actually delivers, and whether there is any beauty left in being imperfect. It shows at the Flux Exhibition in London in September 2026.
