Stay and Talk, Large Turned Beech Vase

A large beech vase with a hand coming out through the wall of the pot, holding a mug. The hand is a plaster cast of Greg's own, and the mug is a souvenir one, printed with I heart Silloth. It is turned wet from a single salvaged log, taken down to a thin wall so it can dry without cracking, then opened up to take the arm. Greg has been making pieces with his own hands emerging from vessels for a while now, and they are the most surreal thing he does. The joinery is invisible: the hand looks like it grew there. The piece is about the need to stop and talk over a cup of tea. The Silloth mug is the joke, and Greg is clear it does not have to be about Silloth. He wants the object to start a conversation that people would otherwise not have, and that is why the mug is a real one rather than something he turned.
