I throw slipware on a kick wheel in a converted stable outside Whitby, using a local red earthenware clay and white slip trailed in the traditional Yorkshire manner. I learned from my grandmother who kept the family pottery going through the seventies when nobody wanted handmade. Every piece is thrown, trailed and glazed by my own hands; firings are small and each batch differs with the weather. Before buying, I would want someone to understand that slipware is meant to be used daily, not kept on a shelf, and that the small variations are the point.
