Aurora is a transparent clear, round profile, borosilicate glass bangle with fine silver and 24ct gold fuming. The glass is closed into a continuous ring, with the joins and small irregularities of the making left visible.
Greig Alderman makes each bangle by lampworking at his studio in Manchester. The I Dedico series began during his MA in Craft and responds to Romano-British glass bangles of the 1st and 2nd centuries AD, as a contemporary answer to those objects rather than a copy of them. Fine silver and 24ct gold are vaporised in the flame and settle on the glass, which is where the iridescence comes from. This one is a large, 67 to 70 mm across the inside.
Borosilicate glass is strong and durable, and clear glass especially catches and bends the light as the bangle moves. Colour, form and pattern vary from piece to piece, so the bangle you receive may differ subtly from the one pictured.
