The Raised Diamond Braid is the more technical Glory Braid. Same heritage straw, same twelve straws traditionally tied to the twelve apostles, same job at harvest time, but plaited in a pattern that lifts off the surface in a clear diamond grid. It takes longer at the bench, and it sits differently against a wall.
Hung along pew ends in the older churches, this one carried the harvest glory; hung at home, it is held to sweep evil away and welcome friends. Lucy plaits the raised-diamond version in the studio in Layer de la Haye and finishes it with ribbon for hanging.
Approximately 18–22cm laid flat with a 6cm ribbon loop. Each piece is plaited individually after you order, so colour and exact size will vary slightly.

Lucy Hook-Child plaits corn dollies and harvest tokens in heritage straw from her studio in Layer de la Haye, Essex. Two of her third great-grandaunts were straw plaiters in Belchamp Walter in the 1850s. She is one of the makers keeping this Red List craft alive today.
