The slim rainbow lead, style 1. The same construction as Gem's standard leads, drawn down to 12mm diameter: slighter in the hand, lighter on a smaller dog.
The rope itself is spun from cotton in a full rainbow of dyed strands, so the colour rotates as the rope turns. At slim gauge the palette reads vivid; the lead is the visual point as much as the dog at the end of it.
Cotton at this gauge still carries Gem's built-in give. Controlled tension on the spin gives the rope a small amount of bounce; the eye-splice finish is stronger than any knot in the same fibre. 100% stainless steel hardware.
Approximately 1.2m end to end, with about 1.03m from the base of the handle to the metal clip. There is a second slim rainbow lead in the range (style 2) with the same dimensions and a different lay of the colours; worth comparing if rainbow is what you came for.

Gem Bowes learned to make rope at Arthur Beale, the Shaftesbury Avenue chandlery that has been splicing line since 1500-something. She works now from a Cambridge studio, hand-spinning flax and dead-stock yarn for dog leads, doorstops, juggling balls.
