A framed textile artwork from Ksenia's Avian Oasis series: a hummingbird shaped in three dimensions from silk, spreading its wings against a velvet ground embroidered by hand with tropical flowers. The bird is detachable, so it can be lifted from the frame and worn as a brooch, then returned to the wall.
Ksenia dyes the fabrics by hand and makes the whole piece by hand, stitching vintage beads in alongside glass beads and sequins. Because the vintage beads cannot be sourced again, the same combination of materials cannot be repeated; the design may be revisited, but this piece stays one of a kind. The hummingbird itself refers to endangered species.
The framed work measures 25 × 25 × 5 cm and is ready for display as a single piece.
