Ash (Fraxinus Excelsior) vase form deep hollowed by Andy and then heavily scorched alternating heat from the torch and cool water to prevent the form from splitting.
Once this has cooled and dried, Bee used a modelling paste to add texture to the inside of the form and then added copper leaf. High pigment acrylic paint has been used to pick out and emphasise the texture in the scorching.
The copper leaf creates an inner glow within the form under a light source making it look like it is lit from within.
This Ash was sourced as a batch from Kingsley at South Western Sawmill from timber that had been felled due to the Ash die back disease

Andy and Bee Matthews are a husband and wife who make together. He turns the timber; she burns and paints into it. Everything starts as a storm-felled or diseased tree from a sawmill ten minutes from their door.
