This piece of burr Laburnum has sat in the workshop gently drying for the past couple of years, the contrast between the heartwood, sapwood bark and burr makes this a unique piece. This piece was put aside by Kingsley at South Western Sawmill and is rescued from the local tree surgeon who had dropped it off to be logged into firewood.
The piece had some deep bark fissures which naturally fell away during the hollowing process, the form has a uniform wall thickness of 7mm and the deep caramel tones complement the burring in the piece. Finished in Danish oil the timber has a beautiful chatoyance when held up to the light. Andy has left the marks from the hollowing tool on the inside of the form which provides a juxtaposition between to inside and outside of the piece.
