Endangered Crafts
Some of the crafts on this page are practiced by fewer than ten people in Britain. Not because the skills aren't worth having, but because the economics never quite worked out, or the apprenticeships dried up, or the materials became harder to source. The Heritage Crafts Association tracks them on a Red List - critically endangered, endangered, or at risk. Every maker here is on that list. Their work is beautiful, but that's almost beside the point. What you're buying is continuity. Something that might not exist in twenty years if people like you don't choose it now.

The Haud Almanack: June Events
June is supposed to be a quiet month for old customs. The May lot have packed away their hobby horses, and the harvest ones are still weeks off. And yet there are three things happening this month that I would happily cross the country for, all of them kept alive by people who decided a tradition was worth the trouble.
